Cai is here and behind you.
The Retreat is a day for MA GBI (23/24) students to approach the planning and designing of their research proposals with 'Plenti' framework, which was developed from research by Cai Zhang to build design research proposals inherently rooted in self-awareness and social consciousness.
A three-hour session consists of guided physical activities and synchronistic online interactions. Attendees need to wear non-restrictive clothing where they can move in (nothing more than walking) and a laptop.
Attendees are welcome to bring yoga mats, thin blankets, and a drink of water. However, this is not essential.
Attendees are welcome to bring along a musical instrument if desired.
To learn how to build compassion-based methodology in design research with prompts To learn equity-based methodology to build enquiries to avoid bolting on the 'ethic' part at the end. To experience and explore multi-sensory research methods. To reflect and evaluate critically how conventions one holds towards academic knowledge.
This workshop intends to demonstrate the balance of pleasure and formality in research. This teaching intervention's activities and theories are highly critical and provocative. It is a space for safer exploration and vulnerability, which are necessary for human-based creativity. It is not a therapeutic space to work on personal issues, though it might require the sure of some common social inhibitions. It is boring to go into each interaction in life already knowing the outcome beforehand. It also beckons questions on accountability that who is supposed to construct learning relevant to you. Come with an open mind and make allowance for some playfulness.
